From the Back Cover
Jean Piaget is arguably the most important figure of our century in the field of child psychology. In more than six decades of studying and working with children, he brilliantly and insightfully charted the stages of a child's intellectual maturation from the first years to adulthood and in so doing pioneered a new mode of understanding the changing ways in which a child comes to grasp the world. The purpose of A Piaget Primer is to make Piaget's vital work readily accessible to teachers, therapists, students, and of course, parents. Two noted American psychologists distill Piaget's complex findings into wonderfully clear formulations without sacrificing either subtlety or significance. To accomplish this they employ not only lucid language but such fascinating illuminations of a child's world and vision as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Winnie-the-Pooh as well as such recent media manifestations as Barney and Sesame Street. This completely revised edition of this classic work is as enjoyable as it is invaluable - an essential guide to comprehending and communicating with children better than we ever have before.

Hear Jordan Peterson praise Piaget and now I know why. This books gives some basics of what he discovered and should be followed up by further readings and understandings. Any parent or adult who's around children should read this and become familiar to Piaget's work. How a child thinks and see's the world, is not like how we adults see it and this books lays some basic foundation to coming to this understandings. One of the things I enjoyed in this book is the level of perception a child has when it comes to level of depth and putting things together as a whole. The age of understanding that a child starts to develop these fundamental skills and development. Don't wanna spill all the beans now, can just read the book. It's very short and sweet and should be followed up with other works.
As someone studying to get my teaching license, I didn't want to spend too much time sifting through a complicated text. I'm very glad I went with this primer instead of starting with one of Piaget's texts. The concepts were laid out in a very understandable, logical way, and each one had relevant examples to go along with it. The revised edition was published in 1996, so the book only just starts to cover television and computer games, but I find that the developmental concepts still hold up despite the changes in media we've experienced since the 90's. I'd definitely recommend using the children in your life or at your job as helpful references when covering these concepts, as more often than not you'll find plenty of parallels between the content and the child's development if you're looking for them. The book also has a helpful glossary in the back of key terms, which makes for very efficient studying.
GREAT I NEED TO REFRESH MY MIND ON HOW A CHILD THINKS.
Love the book and it was very helpful when I was raising my little child
This is a very nice book that uses children's literature, popular comics, and very good writing to demystify Piaget for beginners. I tried to read parts of Piaget's How a Child Thinks and had to put it down. The authors recognize the difficulty in reading Piaget's original works and have written this book for non psychology students. This was a very useful book for a research paper on Piaget for a special education graduate course.
Great and as expected!
Piaget's theories are complex and hard to understand without interpretation. This is exactly the book I needed as it was advertised. Often Piaget's words were of his own coining...since he was a pioneer in child development....or he uses differentdefinitions not available in a dictionary. Also, this book uses examples from children's literature to illustrate points. Excellent resource.
This book give a clear concise view of Piaget's accomplishments. Excellent book If one is studying education, this book is a must.
