I bought this and All Things Girl for my 11 and 13 year olds, respectively, and while the girls version touched nicely on chastity/purity, this one just kind of glosses over the topic. It says the age range is through 14, so I guess I was expecting a bit more. However, what this book does cover, it covers well (like hygiene, virtues, traditional gender roles, etc), so if you are looking for a good Catholic book specifically regarding puberty, sex, and purity, pick up "Charity and Sex and the Young Man" by Herbert Raterman, S.J. along with this one.

My son said he found it very inspiring and useful for his life. I know he got a lot out of it, as he talked about what he had read many times while reading it. Highly recommended.

I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY GRANDSON FOR HIS 12TH BIRTHDAY WHICH WILL BE COMING UP SOON. I HOPE HE LIKES IT.

My 11 year old son and I read this together, each night after the others were tucked in. He looked forward to each night's alone time with Mom and that added to the book being received well. We enjoyed it very much and thought it was really well written and easy to read. Loved the sarcasm and small stories throughout! This book was thought-provoking and speaks about the things that don't get considered as kids grow up; or rather, that get forgotten about. I'll quote Dr. Ray Guarendi here, "It says what good, faithful parents want to say, but may not always be able to find the words." And that's true - I feel like my instruction was complete when I added this book.

This study guide does a great job of making the Screwtape Letters relate to the world facing teens today. The concepts in the book are timeless, but teens might not see that, so this help parents and teens apply the letters to life today. All the problems and difficulties we have in getting, keeping and maintaining our faith are discussed in a relevant way. Great choice!

The study guide helps to breakdown the letters than can be difficult to understand at times, especially since there are some language differences between CS Lewis and today’s teen. Overall the guide focuses on the main points of each letter and gives practical self reflection and life application. I’m a homeschool mom doing this study with two teens, age 15 & 17.

I really enjoy C.S. Lewis and this is a great book for teens and adults. The trick is to help them think of strategies opposite of their natural inclinations due to previous teachings. The old English language takes a little getting used to but it is all worth it.

I'm in OT school right now and this is our bible for interventions concerning physical dysfunction. I know in a beautiful world without production quotas we would all look up meta-analysis studies before working with each patient, but this give you a quick run down of the most important things to do, look for, and not do. Great for those who may be current OT/OTA students and may be going into physical disabilities placements. I bought this to go with the Insect Lore Ladybug kit (link below). It was very informative and at my kid's level (6yo) of understanding. It complemented the kit well and made it a very educational experience. The only problem was the pages are a little flimsy (I know, it's a soft cover book) but my 2yo did a job on it...Insect Lore Ladybug Growing Kit Toy - Includes Voucher Coupon for Baby Ladybug Larave to Adult Ladybugs - SHIP LATER

I love this little book. It's very attractively and cleverly illustrated and the author covers the life cycle of the lady bug well. School teachers will find this very beneficial for their science standards.

Only thing I would change would be real images but overall great book to add to our lady bug lesson.

I like this but gave it 4 stars because my husband doesn't like how the ladybug has to run from danger and death on almost every page and then finds a mate at the end. haha So if you're squeamish about reading to little kids about issues like this then you might not like the book either.

Teacher approved! Used this as a read aloud book with the class during a ladybug study. The book would probably be a bit difficult for students to read on their own but lots of great vocab

I really liked Cadet of Tildor and was so happy to hear that Alex has written a new series.Nile Ash is one tough, kick-ass princess and girl. She loves the sea (just like Moana!- sorry, I just had to add that in here :D ) and will have to hide her real identity in order to survive on a cruel war ship. Nile must learn to trust herself, when she discovers that she is gifted, which is hard to do when you are on ship in the middle of the ocean, just trying to fit in with the other sailors.“Gifted” are people who can attract one of the five elements (fire, metal, stone, air, and water), however, there are huge side effects to being gifted, which can kill you if you are not careful and learn to control your gift. Not everything is fully explained about the gifted in this book- I think because a lot of people are still unsure about the gifted people, and it adds a sense of mystery to plot.There is romance in this novel, and it’s one of my favorite kinds of romances- "hate than love" romances. Nile and a certain first officer are always at odds with each other. Their constant bantering and fighting about everything on the ship, creates the perfect sexual tension in the novel. It was a slow burning romance- so we didn’t really get any action until the end BUT it was awesome and I definitely look forward to the next book for some more secret steamy scenes. Another little bonus to this romance- is the forbiddance… there cannot be any relations between officers and sailors on the ship, it's against the law.I love the pacing of this novel- there was plenty of action and sailing. I think it would be so cool to live on an old ship like the ones in this novel… but then I remind myself that I would probably die from some disease because the ships are usually crowded and not clean. Now back to my actual review... I would have liked to see more background details on the other kingdoms. I think some of that can get boring to read but I felt like I needed a couple more references to really solidify how different each kingdom was.I love a great novel with ships, sailing and pirates… (no pirates in this novel- but certainly a rebelling empire haha). I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Bloody Jack series by L.A. Meyer, Pirates! by Celia Rees, To Catch A Pirate by Lorraine Heath, and to anyone who like fantasy adventure stories! This book did end with a cliffhanger… but that just makes me want to read the sequel even more! Alex Lidell delivers another exciting YA sea-faring adventure with a dash of romance and magic!!

I really wanted to like this book, but in the end I was really let down. Here's a break down of the good and the bad, and I will try not to post any spoilers.The good: I like the colloquial narration. First person present tense is my least favorite narration, but it had an authentic quality to the way Nile would speak. It sometimes seemed too modern, though, so those times took me out of the narrative.Things happen at a good clip. You're not bored.The bad: At the same time, things are also not happening. This is my big problem here. We are introduced the the Gifted, we are introduced to the war happening, we are told about the foreign Prince who wants to marry her --- none of these get farther than that. There's absolutely no development on the storyline. Instead we are treated to the minutiae of sailing and what a bad sailor Captain Rima and his sailors are. More on these in a bit. The whole point of Nile looking for a cure for her twin goes no further. Once she entered the ship, this was all about working in the ship.I was really surprised when the book ended because surely, I thought, there would be some kind of resolution. Any resolution. But no, nothing was resolved. It was a cliffhanger of the worst sort. The climax was not good enough. It didn't feel like the climax, and the book ended a few pages after that. What's worse was there were plenty more pages when looking at my location bar.Characters. Nile was supposed to be a sailor since 8 years old and an officer. However, while she could scamper on the ropes like it's her normal habitat, her skills at fighting was non existent. She had some skill with the sword but you don't necessarily think she had any real fighting accomplishments. Which as an officer I would have thought she'd be more trained than she seemed.Also, as a strong character, she didn't really think before she spoke. She just seemed really young, really mouthy and thought too highly of herself. Also once she's on the ship, she prettt much faints and vomits the whole time.Captain Rima and the sailors. They were so incompetent that it made me wonder how that ship was still sailing. I know that it hadn't met any battles but then it begged the question of how long had this ship been sailing and why did it seem like everyone was so young? Or untried. Why was there no reputation for this ship and captain to be so bad?I would have really liked to have read more. I felt that as a complete book it failed to deliver because the storyline was so incomplete. It was like reading half a book. So now I'm of two minds about picking up the second book. I don't think I would like to find out that it was yet another incomplete story.

From the moment I finished the prequel novella, I needed to get my hands on this book. I was stuck in a major reading rut and this and my reread of the ACOTAR series by Sarah J Maas are the only books I've been able to read with ease for the past few months! Lidell has a writing style that I very much enjoy, and she weaves a fun and heart pounding tale in this first installment of the Tides series.Nile is not your typical princess and I loved her character. She was well balanced and flawed. Incredibly realistic. The other characters too, were lovable or loathable (respective to what they were intended to be), but all felt natural and not exaggerated.The world building is so subtle yet feels so thorough and not overbearing. Over all I was incredibly impressed with the level of detail in the ship scenes, which account for most of the book's setting.It was not my favorite ending of all time, but sets up for book two very well and I cannot wait to pick it up and rejoin Nile on her quest.
