Ordered this book for a Conflict Management class as part of my curriculum for graduate class in HR. Most text books purchased I don't have much to say about, although for this book I make an exception. The writing is dense, but fascinating and well written. I do have to clear away the distractions to really dig into this text, however it has been powerful in really understanding some of the psychology behind conflict, and offers excellent examples of strategies in which to overcome conflict, address it and prevent it. This will be one text I take with me to the office and refer to again and again until I have mastered the strategies.

There are so many different kinds of conflicts at work that it's probably impossible to write a book with scenarios that resonate with everyone. It's also impossible to resolve all conflicts at work, so when reading books like this I try to figure out whether there's enough new information that I can apply to my job. After reading the book, I feel it was worth my time.

I read this book for my HR class on managing conflict and change. The book was an interesting read as I was able to relate to the book and what it was saying. After reading the book I was better able to analyse, manage, and handle conflict. I did find that the book has one major weakness, a section of the book tells us to communicate freely our emotions with those who we are in conflict with in hopes that they would do the same. I find this to be a challange as we are not often truthful with our emotions, which can often be raw and unforgiving.I say this as I was in postion to say how really felt about a situation and found that even though I wanted to say how I really felt I coudnt express these emotions due to the boby language I was recieving from the individual. Overall I would reccomend this book not only professionals but also to everyday individuals to use in everyday situations.

This is one of the most practical and insightful books written regarding conflict at work, both with respect to approaches for systems and for individuals. It's easy to read and get's to the point without a lot of unnecessary story telling.

This may be the finest collection of short stories that I have read in years. Many feature elements of magical realism, but fantastical elements always serve a thematic end. Most of the stories deal in some way with redemption and forgiveness, and I was sometimes moved nearly to tears by the elegance with which these ideas were translated into text. I wish I had found this book sooner, and plan to read much more Etgar Keret.

With this book I think the most important thing for any potential reader is to understand the genre before giving this book of short stories a read, because if you do not like this genre then you will not like this book. The stories are dark, and the author plays with irony and subtle twists. The author's worlds are not black and white but instead different shades of grey. If you don't enjoy flawed heroes who learn twisted lessons then this is not the book for you.With that said this book was an important read for me in that it illustrated just how big a role military life plays in Israeli culture and society. More than half of these stories had some theme of military service surrounding them. The author's stories tend to focus on youths, and so their eventual military service is a common theme. I guess it is difficult to understand just how much the military permeates Israeli culture when one is outside of this society. I have read a lot of books on Israel, but it wasn't really till this little book that the reality actually began to sink in that this is a very pervasive aspect of Israeli culture.As for the stories themselves the majority of them are about three pages long so expect to be sucked into this book very quickly. I found myself saying just one more until the book was finished. Of course I love this genre and style, so this book was bound to find a receptive audience with me. The author has a very nice style that sucks you in quickly then punches you in the gut before he moves onto the next story.Once again know the genre. If this genre appeals to you then you will love this book, but if it doesn't then you should absolutely skip this work because it won't appeal to you.

I might be going a little too far by calling this the best book I've read all year, but while the high of this book still lingers with me that's what I'm calling it. I'll admit the only reason I bought this book was to read "Kneller's Happy Campers" because it was adapted into the film Wristcutters - A Love Story, but "Knellers" turned out to be the last story in the collection and it just didn't feel right to ignore the other stories.Etgar Keret doesn't disappoint. His style might be a little over the top for the average reader, but his imagination is just the sort of world I'd love to live in. From a town that houses the gateway to hell to a man who finds Heaven within a pipe, the book is filled with slice-of-life stories of average-joe characters who just happen to reside within the surreal.I should warn that if you're not into magical realism, bizarro fiction, or surrealism, then you should stray away from this collection. However, if you're seeking an exit from the monotony of your choice genre, this book might just be what you're looking for.

I watched the movie "Wrist Cutters - A Love Story" which is based on a short story by Etgar Keret called "Kneller's Happy Campers". While the movie has a happier ending that the short story, I did enjoy Keret's writing style and the fact his stories are quirky and present life from a different point of view. Keret is a Jewish author and grew up in Israel. His stories have a bit of an existential feel and I think he would be an interesting person to know.

I (along with what I believe to be most of the other people reviewing) bought this book because I really enjoyed the movie "Wristcutters: A Love Story." Let me say, I was NOT disappointed!!With the exception of Wristcutters, all of Keret's stories in the book are REALLY short, even in comparison to other short stories that I have read. While I was initially concerned that I would not enjoy such short stories, I found that my initial thoughts were mistaken, and I greatly appreciated their length. This book is really easy to pick up and read when you only have a few minutes to read- say before dinner or during a break at work.I found all of the stories agreeable, but would have to say that my favorite story was "The Bus Driver Who Wanted to be God." I thought that both characters in this story were extremely likable, and I found the story to be rather sweet. However, in some of the stories, I believe that the ideas presented would be more relatable to someone more familiar with Israeli culture than I.

This is one of my favorite books/authors! Each and every story grabs you by the seat of your pants/skirt and takes you on an ever unexpected journey. Etgar Keret is my author idol! If I could write even half as good as him, I'd be a best-seller!

There is no way to know whether you will like this book or not, because it's totally fresh and different from any other writer out there (to my knowledge; if I'm missing something please do let me know). This is a voice like nothing I've ever read, with incredible imagination and depth. A window into modern Israeli culture as well as some of the deepest and most raw human emotions, the kind you don't access in the course of normal life. And it was liberating - finally, a vision of the place our present lives occupy in the great big eternity or whatever this thing might be that's tangible and all the more meaningful for not being swept aside for a set of answers. Keret's is an anchorless irreverance; instead of bashing its head against some existing philosophy, it just lets itself unfold. Reading him was a completely new and revelationary experience for me and I would recommend him to anyone who can sweep aside everything they might have heard or read - including this review - and just read him with wide open eyes.

I originally fell in love with the movie the wristcutters: a love story. That movie is based off a short story in this book called knellers happy campers. Reading the actual story was like rediscovering an old love.

For the most part, this looks like a standard investment text. The major topics for a course on investments is covered. To be fair, any investment text you get from the past decade or two will likely have most of the same major topics. It is well-written and well-organized, which is helpful.In my opinion, there are two areas that this text adds value. First, the discussion on technical analysis is very good. Second, since this book has a 2011 copyright, some of the data is updated relative to older texts. This latter is my main reason for getting new finance texts.Therefore, if you are a finance newbie, you will benefit from this text. However, for intermediate or advanced finance students, you will likely have read other texts that cover pretty much the same topics. In my opinion, unless those texts are old (i.e., the data and research presented are dated), you likely don't need to consider getting this text or any other text on investments for that matter.

I would have given this five stars but for a few nitpicking instances where the lyrics differed slightly from the sheet music in my collection of rare American songs circa 1890s-1920, but ---this is, as I said nitpicking. It might be that the authors were taking the lyrics as they heard them rather than as they appeared in print. I only found three cases anyhow and the sense of the song was not altered.I was pleased to find a wide range of topics, not just the usual lovelorn man/woman singing the virtues of his mate, or pining away from unrequited love. One small criticism. One of my favorites, Down in Jungle Town (1908) is characterized as a monkey song that is racist in that it analogizes African-Americans with the wild simians.I didn't get this impression at all. To me it was one of the many "monkey craze" songs of the period around 1907-1920, in which the songwriters thought it would be "cute" to endow the critters with human pretensions. Not that there weren't plenty of racist songs during that period---many of which the authors amply illustrate.I especially enjoyed the Jewish-themed song selection in which Jewish songwriters poked fun at their own roots. No doubt many of these songs were enjoyed by some anti-Semites as confirming their stereotypes.All in all this collection, conveniently arranged on a year-by-year basis, is great casual browsing and provides food for thought--- or song.

An excellent use of music lyrics to explicate the history of 1900 to 1945. Sheet music collectors may be disappointed that many sheets she uses are rare and obscure but overall a well done survey

A man out west had lost his wife and s the winter season was coming his sister-in-law contacted a marriage broker who sent the girl west to marry. A must read for those who enjoy historical western romance kindle books from Amazon at a special price and from a delightful author who keeps me entertained throughout the entire book before putting it down.
