I liked this book. It is heavily researched, has plenty of footnotes, and suggested books to read at the back.I am fairly new to the subject of "transhumanism" and some of the theories in this book.Some of those theories are speculative. I give the author credit for admitting them as such.Mr. Skiba's material on Nimrod was intriguing. It's definitely something to ponder and makes sense in some ways.He explains how Ham's lineage included giants. He offers a very plausible idea.With so many wild,far-fetched theories in print about who the anti-christ is, Mr. Skiba offers another that makes more sense.The Chapter " Truth or Tradition" addressed the pagan connections to Christianity and how Babylon of Scripture prophecy ties in.His thoughts on the corruption in current American politics was spot on.I thought the author came across as very sincere and I plan on reading at least one of his future releases listed in this book.

I must admit that I am a bit of a sucker for the conspiracy theories as I find some of these conspiratorial perspectives to be, at a minimum, somewhat interesting to read and watch. With that said, there are some books that may seem at first glance to be nothing more than a bunch of crazy summations by people with rather imaginative minds, efforts worthy of the Science Fiction channel but in reality, when you dig in to the material presented, what may have seemed like mere coincidence begins to be in reality, something far more worth of discussion and focus. It is this latter element that forms the basis of the discussion in Rob Skiba's book, Babylon Rising: And the Last Shall be First.Prior to reading Skiba's book, I had taken the opportunity to watch a few of the videos he has produced that are available on his website as well as on YouTube. In those videos, Skiba discussed a number of interesting perspectives on anything from what took place in Genesis 6 to who was Nimrod to the reasons as to why there are so many mythical gods displayed in our nation's capital. Again, for many this is nothing but empty conspiracy theories. I will submit that after watching these videos and reading Babylon Rising along with some additional research, it would be a bit incorrect to toss out what has been so often been considered in the minds of many as conspiracy theory nonsense.Skiba presents a number of interesting theses, to include what was taking place in Genesis 6, in particular the issue of who or what the Nephilim were and why anyone should care. As noted earlier, while some may disagree with Skiba's conclusions, one cannot deny that something rather odd was taking place in Genesis 6, an event that Scripture notes has some relation to end times events. Furthermore, the whole issue of Nimrod and his definite impact on history, especially the formation of pagan god worship throughout the centuries, is yet another very interesting topic worth reading. If one does a bit of historical studies regarding the development of the gods, especially the gods of the Ancient Near East (ANE), Egypt, Greece, and Rome, they will be able to trace how those pantheons of gods worshipped by those cultures has its roots in the worship of Nimrod.Perhaps the most captivating element of Babylon Rising for me was the discussion of the rather odd inclusion of pagan gods in and around the capitol of the United States. This of course begs the question as to why so much pagan architecture is part of the capitol and if the inclusion of such iconography has any relevant meaning. For Skiba, the answer is unequivocally in the affirmative that at least some degree of paganism found its way into the establishment and governance of our country. For some readers, that may be a rather shocking statement given the manner in which the founding fathers are typically depicted as devout men of God who founded this country on a solid foundation of biblical principles. The reader will need to make their own conclusions based on the evidence provided and in doing so, will have to decide if the evidence presented is merely coincidence or something much more. Is the involvement of many of our nation's leaders in secret societies just some sort of men's club or does the inclusion in the Skull and Bones or Freemasonry mean that our leaders are to some degree pursuing an agenda which is not all that righteous. Again, this for many is included in the realm of conspiracy theory, but the evidence presented certainly is worth considering.A final issue raised by Skiba in this book is that of holidays such as Christmas and Easter. For many readers, the issue over whether to celebrate Christmas and Easter can be a thorny one, especially since Christmas is the time most people celebrate the birth of Christ and Easter is the time believers remember the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Certainly there can be nothing wrong with those holidays, despite yet again, questions and issues that have been presented by several authors as to the roots of some of the trappings of both holidays. Typically, most respond to the assertion that such holidays should be avoided by noting passages such as Colossians 2:16-17. However, as rightly noted by Skiba, God has provided a list of Feasts that He has determined should be celebrated by all believers in remembrance of what God has done throughout history. This certainly begs the question as to whether December 25th and Easter fit into that festival construct. Again, this is something the reader will need to decide and Skiba certainly provides some very compelling thoughts to consider on this often thorny subject. It is very interesting as Skiba points out that the early church fathers such as Tertullian were very adamant about not celebrating pagan holidays or associating themselves in any manner with such festivals or customs. The discussion by Skiba regarding the possible birthday of Jesus as occurring during the cycle of the fall feasts was for me rather fascinating. Having recently concluded a pretty thorough study of all the Feasts of the Lord, what Skiba presents is certainly within the realm of reality. Moreover, Jesus being born during the Feast of Trumpets and coming again during the Feast of Trumpets certainly would be nice bookends if you will regarding his initial incarnation and his second coming. If anything, it provides some valid food for thought in regards to the issue that exists between something such as the Feasts of the Lord and December 25th, a day the pagans celebrated the birth of their gods.Overall, this proved to be a very fascinating and worthwhile book. As noted on a number of occasions in this review, there are many issues Skiba raises that many will toss out as mere conspiracy and nonsense. Those who take that approach I believe will miss out on some topics to take under consideration. One thing is certain and that is at the end of days there will be some very odd things taking place. What those will ultimately be is arguably a matter of debate. In that spirit of discussion, Skiba's book is well worth the read as it presents a wide range of interrelated concepts, ideas, and subjects that are gaining in popularity of thought and rightly so in my estimation.

Great stuff. Don't be surprised if it blows you away. I can see where more than a few traditionalist Christians might find this too fantastical, but I have been studying these issues for a number of years myself. I think that 99% of Skiba's material is right on the money. This work contains a great deal of information that has been hidden or ignored for too long. For the price of a good meal or less, take the leap, and buy a book that may profoundly effect the way you view both pre-history and eschatological issues.

Loved this book. Its a good and easy read. Rob has really done a lot of research and you can tell. Obviously the subject matter isn't widely accepted in mainstream Christians circles, but neither is celebrating the Passover in place of Easter. Rob has just taken the Word of God for what it says, researched it and came to a conclusion that would appear to be supported by several "extra Biblical, Biblically endorsed texts". Thanks.

Rob Skiba makes many good points about the problems within the Church and us as Christians. He introduces the Nephlim theory and how it truly can be the "key" to understanding and making sense of the scripture as a whole. I Do however call into question his theories on OBL/UBL as well as the shooting down of Extortion 17. Also, the idea of Iraq rising to become THE superpower of the world. Nonetheless, his theories are all caviotted as his own interpretations and do give us things to be watchful of. Skiba does remind us to perform our own research and always ties it back to putting on the full armor of God, which includes living as Jesus would and building our relationship with Christ. This has been an eye opening read for me and I can't wait to read the following books in the series.

Eschatological studies and emphasis on Nephalim---for people who already know something about these issues or just want to find theories that work with Biblical text that most people shrug off. For people who realize that many things have been part of history that are not generally talked about and have caused division at times, but inquiring minds want to know.

It was very difficult to realize the truth of the founding fathers of America. It was the pilgrims that praised and thank the Lord. Not the founding fathers who served a different god and worshipped the beast. Dedicating the capital buildings to foreign gods who are not the God of the bible. I will say the book does explain clearly why America is falling into anarchy and destruction. She is the whore of Babylon. And she must be destroyed to set up the demonic one world government. It's truly sad to realize the millions who will die for a system that only lasts 7 years and ends in destruction itself. I am proud to say I follow Jesus and look forward to His rule in the kingdom of God on earth.

My daughter loves Magic School bus and the body. I thought this would be perfect for her. It is too difficult, way too many words, and images aren't interesting enough to capture her attention. She is only preschool aged though. Maybe in a few years she will enjoy it. (She loves other body books for older kids, just not this one)

Magic School Bus books are our go to for instant research on tons of topics! We recently re-purchased the Human Body book because our other copy had taken a beating. Mrs. Frizzle will take your children on wild ride through Arthur's mouth and out through his nose hitting all the major body systems in between! Perfect for a cool story but it also contain facts in the margin that your child working on a bigger project can use!

My kids are long since "kids" so I like to check out the suggested age group of a book bc I'm out of practice. I do not think this book is a good book for 6 yrs olds, the suggested age listed is 6-8. If your child is on the younger end of the scale, you certainly will need to be read most of this to them, and there are way too many 'busy' side boxes of info that would not be easy for a child to focus on. Bc of all the sidebar info, I felt this was best for a child on the upper end of the age scale, even above age 8. So don't be afraid to buy this for a child over 8 yrs old. I wanted this for my soon-to-be 10 yr old grandson, needed a book about a topic he liked (undersea) and was easy to pack and ship abroad. This is physically a very skinny book, but that's what I hoped for. It's what's inside that matters.

Bought for my six year old who loves the show (both old and new). I was so excited when a friend reminded me that there are Magic school Bus books! My son loves the episode based on this book and it was one of my favorites goriwnhrg up so getting to read it is amazing! Science is without a doubt his favorite subject so to get to explore it in such a fun way is so much fun for story time. I bought 4 of these and will be finding more for Christmas!

This series has a lot of side details everywhere to help satisfy your kid's curiosity and give you ideas on related topics to cover. After reading this we watched the episodes of the old series related to digestion and even played pretend that we were going through the body on the magic school bus as well. I think my son learned a lot from this.

I never liked the idea of reading off a "computer" or not having pages to flip.....bit this Kindle changed the game around. I have all of my books at my fingers....anytime. Bed time stories for the kids, Bible, work publications, books, oh and you can email any type of document to the "kindle" email that sends directly to it and it will automatically convert it to read on your Ki dle. If you don't have one of these you are missing out.

I like using with my pediatric patients for reading material during Epsom salt soaks in the med room. Simple enough to be easily understood, accurate enough to be helpful. Gotta Love Magic School Bus!

I've only ever experienced such synchronicity of human and innate nature in the works of Madison Smartt Bell.The absolute crystallization and distilled perfection of Kawabata's intuitively masterful prose is unsurpassed.A masterpiece.

My fourth time through the entire Mitford series and it never fails to delight! Tonight is Christmas Eve, and coincidentally or serendipitously, I just happened to finish this book which ends on Christmas Eve. “God’s timing is perfect.” Highly recommend to those seeking peace and simplicity in life.

I read the Mitford/Father Tim series by Jan Karon several years ago and enjoyed them very much. Now I'm listening to the books on CD during my drive home commute everyday. Hearing the stories aloud is a wonderful stress reducer. Its almost like meeting and catching up with news of old friends. Every character's story has challenges but with Father Tim's never failing faith and perseverance everything always works out for the best.

I struggled getting into the first book, but every one since has just been like going home to see family. I love reading the stories of Fr. Tim, Cynthia, Dooley, and all of the wonderfully amazing citizens of Mitford. It just feels like the perfect little down that everyone would love to be a part of. I can’t wait to read the next one!

I love all of Jan Karon's Mitford series. I'll be sad if she doesn't keep writing about these charming characters and their quaint lives. I especially love Father Tim and Cynthia and their Christian love. The Bible verses and the quoting of the liturgies are so familiar to me and it's refreshing to read these pages with no sex or profanity, yet they are filled with true love. The guys at the Grill are so funny and sound like some folks I know!The only thing about this edition was that it was sent to my i pad; I'm sure it went to my kindle as well, but I hardly read from it anymore as I like the i pad better. I don't know what happened, but all throughout the book the numeral "1" appeared everywhere at the end of words in place of the letter that should have been there. Annoying after a while but I still loved the story. I don't know if it went out that way to other readers or not but it was strange!Great series, though-

I am reading the entire Mitford series and, oddly enough, this has become my favorite. I loved the new characters and the new setting, while maintaining close ties with Mitford. I loved the excitement and the wonderful, simple theology. I must say, however, that the Kindle version was VERY difficult to read. (I hope Amazon reads this. I want my money back!) The last letter of many of the words is replaced by the number "1" and followed by "...." It was extremely distracting and interrupted the flow of the book while I figured out what word belonged there. On some pages, this happened multiple times. Thank goodness Ms. Karon' s genius shone past this and, once again, she delivered a winner.

It has been a long time since a series not in the fantasy genre has captivated my attention and imagination the way Ms. Karon's Mitford series has. As a former resident of WNC, I find her firsthand insight to the people, the region and the atmosphere to be right on the mark. I love the fact that I could step out of my own doorstep and see each and every character in the series as my friends and neighbors. Well Done!In A New Song, Ms. Karon continues the great thread she has begun and the shift of Fr. Tim and Cynthia to Whitecap from Mitford only adds fresh vitality to this series. The characters are solid, the dialog very real and the book moves from the very serious to the sublime. *the deep sea fishing trip was so funny, I had to put the book aside and surrender to a laughing fit....thank you for that! *If you have enjoyed Mitford up to now, then by all means read A New Song. I fervently hope that Ms. Karon continues to bring us the news from Mitford for some time to come.

You have to listen to the series in order to enjoy them fully. This is a replacement for another audiobook of the same title we had lent to a friend who lent it to someone else and on until we decided just to replace it. Anyway, the stories are very enjoyable and the audio quality is still good. Our audiobook library now numbers well over a thousand. We listen to our audiobooks while traveling, working on the farm or orchard, or just loafing.

This is a great series that can be enjoyed by young children and adults. I used them as part of the training for a short term missions campaign. Each of the fourteen team members read a different biography in this series and then reported to the rest of the team. It was reminder that the training topics we were learning were relevant and lived out by the faithful and fruitful missionaries introduced by this series of biographies. For many of the team this was their first introduction to reading Christian biography and they loved it!Positives of this series:1) Great introductory overviews of the lives and ministries of the individuals.2) Basic reading level for an increasingly illiterate culture3) Short enough to be read quickly in a culture with an increasingly short attention span4) Available in Kindle and audio book for the technologically inclined5) Well written and holds your attention without being exaggerated and exploitative6) Chapters are short and can easily be read to children at bedtime or by adults on lunch breaksNegatives of this series:1) Due to their brevity and target audience the series does not deal with the more negative aspects of an individual's struggles with sin and the weaknesses in their personality as sinners saved by grace.2) Does not come across as hagiography (so idealizing the person that it borders on idolatry) but these introductions are not the place to get the full picture of these godly but imperfect champions for God. Instead they are great springboards to more extensive biographies that deal with the fuller picture of these heroic but very human Christ followers.

Adoniram Judson's biography is challenging and inspiring...but it's not just a nice happy story. The things he went through were extremely difficult and left us shaking our heads at times. We've been reading this series with our kids before bed, and they really enjoy them, but sometimes the younger one asks, "Why does everyone die in these stories?" So that gives you an idea of the hardships that the Judson's (and many other missionaries of that time) faced. Despite that, our kids are learning the worth of the Gospel (it's worth giving your life for!), the importance of perseverance in difficult times, and also not to take the blessings we have for granted.

13 & 16 year old boys loved this book! Great for any teen/adult as this series makes the story very exciting. They didn't put it down until they were done.

I love the Christian Heroes, Then and Now series. My 10 year old loves it when I read them to him as well. This particular story was a little sad, but it was powerful.

Dr Judson had the most amazing life. It was full of danger and adventure. Excellent book. Hard to put down.

This book was very good and quite readable. It gave a good perspective of the life of Adoniram Judson and the challenges that he had to face. Although the book was about Adoniram, it gave a good summary of the lives of wives of missionaries as well. Rated this book as 4-* because it is very well worth reading and it gives good perspective on how do some missionaries survive.

I read it to my children. We all really enjoyed it. It really gets your attention and makes you want to keep reading.

About the Author

Natalia Strelkova has been bilingual in English and Russian since childhood. She received a degree from City University of New York (CUNY), traveled to Russia during the Krushchev "thaw" and stayed for 35 years, working as a translator and editor. She taught translation technique for 24 years at the Institute of Foreign Languages in Moscow. She has previously taught Russian at Georgetown University and translation at American University. She resides in the Washington, D.C. area.

I've read every book on Russian>English translation I've been able to get my hands on. Yes, I've been working to refashion myself as a professional translator since losing my job in academia. (Sadly, there is no work for those of us trained to teach Russian in today's America, making my doctorate essentially not worth much. Hence, the turn to translation work.) However, not to state the obvious, but despite multiple years in Moscow and said doctorate, I have found it to be much harder to "reproduce" into English Russian texts than to simply understand them. Of course, this is common knowledge to those who practice translation work, but the fact remains that it is very hard, particularly at the beginning, to move from the overly literal translation. Strelkova is a master instructor of the art, and her book is absolutely essential reading for those who wish to improve their abilities. She identifies several problematic aspects of Russian, such as what she calls "props"--certain verbs ''and nouns derived from verbs and many other problematic areas that can constrain the translator. Her suggestions for dealing with these issues are truly helpful and can only come from someone with years and years of translation practice under her belt. I am so very grateful for this book, which, on top of everything else, is easy on the pocketbook! She says in the afterword that she is creating an online course, and I hope this is true! I'll be one of the first to sign up for it!

I am a linguist by education and speak two languages with native fluency and Russian with reasonable fluency.I love this book for its modern sociolinguistic approach which emphasizes translation from Russian within the social and cultural context in which it is spoken.Translation is both an art and a science. In order to translate well, social and cultural differences have to be taken into account. Translation is not merely taking a group of words and rendering them into the target language, English in this case, but translating them into an appropriate cultural context that most closely renders the context in which the words were spoken in Russian.The author has a unique perspective and a unique background which gives her excellent qualifications and makes this book really interesting. If you are interested as an English speaker in translation from Russian to English or simply are an advanced student of Russian wanting to achieve a more advanced understanding of the language, I highly recommend this fascinating book.

I had hoped that this book would help me - a novice student, with Russian translation. But, much of this book is WAY over my head. Still, I am the consummate student; so, I am getting some benefit from this excellent work. And, the more I learn, the more help it will be; so, it is not a waste of money, IMHO.

This book is full of really useful tips and tricks that one can readily apply in situations where a good translation doesn't come immediately to mind. As mentioned in another comment though, the lack of an index is a drawback. The whole book could also have benefited from a good editor (there are some clunky, even incomplete, sentences presented as finished translations, vague examples, and formatting issues).

I think think this book is a great start for those looking into becoming translators. The author does a great job at explaining common mistakes and how to fix them. I highly recommend it!

The title "an introduction to" can be misleading: this book contains a variety of useful tips, even for the more experienced translator working from Russian into English. A must have, and possibly the best book of its kind for the native English translator working from Russian.

Get beyond the trap of literal translation. Strelkova's advice is excellent. It is seriously flawed, however, by the lack of an index.

Great Story, Reccomend read

This is an storyline that has yet to see justice for a four year old Hawaiian Princess, and a colorado young girl as well as ongoing corrupted Hawaii, every lawyer, judge, mayor councils governor, corporates and nonprofit corporates of the american militaropolitical Regime that stole hawaii, hook line and sinker.

Anyone who has been victimized by the corrupt hiding in Hawaii should read this book. These true stories are told by those who still have a voice; The families who lost loved ones, their inheritance, their property. My sister and I have spent the last five years gathering information on the death of Jack Lee Stahley, our father. During our journey we have met many other families with similar stories to tell. Luckily we also met JD Benish, who has given our stories this voice. Now we pray for justice... The Fifth Seal.....

This book has great writing. It is very readable, personable, believable and a page turner. This book has such honest writing is it like you are a witness to all the pain, anquish, ephiphanies, and wisdom of the author in a surreal first-hand experience. The book is well researched and presented with detailed testimony. The fact that the author is a retired cop helps to bring technical insight on how the law, courts, and cases come together.

Anyone that is interested in the corruption in Hawaii and what the mainstream media, politicians and authorities are hiding, this book is a must read. Jim Benish is an amazing detective and reveals a truth you won't hear anywhere else.

Conspiratorial and racist at best. Benish refers to Japanese-Americans as "the same Japanese who bombed Pearl Harbor," and posits that they "infest Hawaii." He also believes that Philippians are people from the Philippines. A struggle to read.

The carb counts in this book are WRONG. Some are seriously wrong. My 12 year old daughter is newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I got this book for her and she was grateful to have something with carbs listed, so she could plan her insulin shots and meals. She picked a recipe with black beans and rice, which had carbs listed at 6 g per 1 cup serving. She was so excited she could have two cups for 12 g. I stopped and looked at the meal, which was comprised entirely of rice with some black beans and spices and thought the count seemed wrong. Cooked rice AND black beans have carb counts of 43 g per cup. She started crying when I told her the book was wrong. She had one cup, gave herself appropriate insulin for 43 g and her later blood sugar checks made us glad we didn't believe THIS COMPLETELY INACCURATE CARB COUNT. I looked up another recipe; roast chick peas; also wrong. Chick peas are 80 g of carb per can; multiply by 2, divide by 8 servings, you get 20 g of carb per serving, not the 11 g the book states. It sells recipes to report low carb counts. This book could really hurt someone. I don't understand the ADA name on it. I don't actually understand how the book got this far at all.

Read the one and two star reviews before buying, they are right about this book. Almost all of these recipes have sugar in the nutritional values - some of them have 12g to 17g of sugar (some recipes include brown sugar)!If these meals were packaged and on the shelves at my grocery store, I'd read the nutritional value (like most diabetics do) and immediately put it right back on the shelf - why would I want the recipe?!?!I'm so disappointed!

Because my blood sugar has been steadily climbing the past couple of years, I decided to address the problem before I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. This book was a huge disappointment. The recipes are, as advertised, "comfort food," but there's nothing new here other than rerducing carbs, fats and sodium. I looked through it once and haven't been back. It doesn't take a lot of studyiing to cut back on the ingredients that are reduced in this book (unless you're a candidate for Worst Cooks TV show). Thanks to a different cookbook, "Diabetic Living's Diabetic Meals by the Plate," my blood sugar is once again under control, I'm losing weight slowly and steadily and truly enjoying exciting new ways to prepare veggies and proteins.

Diabetics looking for low carb alternatives need to look elsewhere. All of the recipes are extremely carb heavy (many 20-30g per serving). The author starts focusing on low fat and low calorie which really isn't as significant of a factor for diabetics.None of the recipes are actually significantly different that what you could find in any cookbook since they don't even bother to be low-carbohydrate alternatives.There are no recipes in this book that I will use.

Don't know how they can call themselves a diabetic book. Flour? Sugar? Two things diabetics try to avoid. I wish I had paid more attention to the other reviewers and not bought this book.

I have made several of the recipes - some more once. The recipes I've tried so far are tasty, fairly easy to make and don't leave one feeling like they are settling for a healthy, but less tasty, dish. In short - I don't feel cheated! I am adding these recipes to dishes I make regularly. No one eating any of these recipes were even aware that they were geared to a health specific diet. I really like all the information regarding the carbohydrate, fat and protein content - including sodium and fiber. I don't care about exchanges but I suppose it's important to some. Really like this cook book and will recommend it to anyone looking to change their diet.

This is probably a great book for people who don't associate the word "Comfort" with just plain home cooking. It certainly has some great sounding recipes, but not the type of food I call "comfort food." Probably because I'm from the South, and we look at comfort food as entirely different from what this book calls "Comfort" food. I'm sure other people would find wonderful recipes in this book; I'm definitely NOT saying it is a bad book.....just not what I am looking for.

There are a lot of really good recipes in this book. As a prediabetic I was comforted and amazed at the variety of foods that one is allowed to eat. My only objection is that the recipes are always for six or eight servings, so I have to figure out how to cut the amounts down for one person.
