I was prepared to be disappointed by this book but actually found it to be decent. I have grown Carnivorous plants for 35 plus years. I also own about every English language book about Carnivorous plants published since Darwin's Insectivorous Plants (with the exception of some of the juvenile titles), as well as many in French, Japanese and other languages. Consequently, I am fairly qualified to assess this title in comparison to some of its predecessors.First, I believe that its author's aspiration to be the "Ultimate Guide to growing carnivorous plants" is an overreach. It is, however, a solid survey book. It is ambitious in its coverage of the multiple genera of carnivorous plants. It has nice photographs of plants in cultivation and in their natural habitats. For the true enthusiast, the treatment of each genus is necessarily brief to allow incorporation into just one volume. For more in-depth studies of the natural history of each, I would recommend the many titles by Stewart McPherson, who has written, or co-written many volumes each devoted to one type or at least, one geographical region.Mr. Greyes has incorporated a great deal of cultivation information, drawing from the years of research on these plants. Clearly, he has had great success in his growing and so this book easily supplants many of the early books(Pietrapolo, Schwartz, Adrian Slack, Marcel Lecoufle). Today, cultivation may include tissue culture, lights, even fertilizers which were once considered unwise.This book should be considered an excellent resource for the beginner or even the advanced novice. It is also an attractive book to have as part of an overall collection. Nonetheless, if I had to recommend one book to someone starting out, it would be The Savage Garden, revised edition, by Peter D'Amato. It contains more information, better photographs and better paper/print quality. At $17 dollars, it is half the price of Mr. Greyes book and probably a superior work.

Excellent book. Covers entire spectrum of plants and cultivation. Detailed descriptions and information. Well-known author.Will be helpful as I try to cultivate plants. Well known author.

Would not recommend buying the kindle version. There is no table of contents. Makes it difficult to find the areas I am interested in. As such I have not read a lot of the book so it would be unfair to comment on the content. For such a high price they could have created a TOC.

For me it is not a comparison of books as this field is so new we gleen new information from each book. I especially like the way the author organizes the information which makes the format useful. I appreciated the clear photos and planting information.

This book is a great beginning for understanding legal aspects of the cyber world. As more individuals, corporations and government agencies come under cyber attack, and as more people use digital technology to commit crimes through cyberspace, it is more than ever important to be able to navigate both the technical and legal issues of discovering evidence from computer storage, hard drives, Internet traffic and anything else that has a microchip and Wi-Fi connection. HR, IM and others need to understand what auditors and investigators are looking for and why it is essential that their employees understand what to do and what not to do during an investigation or audit. No one book could emcompass all one would need to know without becoming cumbersome. The chapters contain the basics of various subjects such as an overview of digital and electronic terms, types of electronic devices and media, types of evidence, and knowing what a good expert is and how to hire one. There is just enough information to get the reader started on further research into specific areas. Recommended.

As the title tells you, this book is for legal professionals who deal with digital evidence and not for computer professionals.This book educates legal professionals on what types of digital evidence are out there and what you may need to ask for to ensure you are getting as much evidence as possible, without overlooking something. In today's world of smartphones, this is particularly relevant. The book provides what to look for in a computer forensics expert, what that person can/should do for the money you are paying, and how to get access to evidence stored on devices, search engines, websites, social media, or even online gaming data.The book also presents explanations of what statutes are out there, such as the Stored Communications Act and the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, and how they may make acquisition of digital evidence more procedurally complex. Will a subpoena get the job done? Do you need a search warrant? It all depends on the specific situation. This book not only discusses the matters, but also devotes a section to motions necessary to acquire the evidence and how to preserve it for court.All told, it is an incredibly valuable overview of the field for any legal professional.

I wanted to read this book because I'm a writer and in one of the books that I'm working on the plot involves a bit of forensic probing into a computer. Rather than simply sound like a TV detective using cliche terms, I thought it would be useful and interesting to know how such work is really done and just how complex (and reliable) this type of forensic investigation can be. I can't say that I sat down and read the book cover to cover (though if you were a lawyer or someone studying criminology you would certainly get a lot out of reading it), but I've read the chapters that are pertinent to my story and I have to say I've found the writing interesting, entertaining and extremely useful. I think this is a book most lawyers (including prosecutors) should have on their shelf and if you happen to be a fiction writer or a crime writer, I think you'll find this book well worth the cover price.The book goes well beyond the scope that I was expecting, too. It includes information on how digital forensics can be used with social media, finding files and photos files on computers that have been erased, how to hire the right expert to do the work for you (if you're an attorney, those pages alone are worth owning the book) and then takes you through preserving evidence, presenting it to get warrants, using the evidence in court, etc. It really is a fascinating book and I'm sure every writer in Hollywood will be buying a copy. It is an excellent writer's reference tool--and the only one like it that I could find.A good read on a somewhat obscure subject and I'm sure it's destined to be the classic text on the subject. I just hope the publisher is willing to have it updated every few years--it's certainly worth the effort.

When I got this book to review, I was worried that a book for "Legal Professionals" would be extremely boring and technically "light." I was happily wrong on both accounts. While this book is a legal textbook, it's an "easy read" because it's written in plain language and is a walkthrough from pre-trial to trial.I work in IT security, and this is one of the most helpful books I've read in quite some time. It helps me understand what attorneys look for and how to use what amounts to "best practices." I've also learned about a few good tools as well. If you're a security manager, you need to buy this book.For attorneys, even non-technical ones, this book is extremely valuable. It provides quality explanations that aren't jargon-laden, and has lots of current case law references. If you're going after any sort of digital evidence for any reason, then this book should live on your desk.This book is a page turner, and that's not any slight against the book. It's filled with lots of information that you'll want to keep easily accessible for handy references.

The recipes are simple, clear and the book is written in simple language that everyone can understand and this comprehensive book gives insight into everything you'd want to know when using an electric smoker and cookbook has done wonders and now he/she looks like some kind of a professional smoker and I enjoy cooking and have been for over 10 years, but the idea of actually smoking my food is still relatively new to me and i was pleased to find these recipes concise and easy to understand and some involve more prep time than others, but all are easy to follow and just remember rule number one about trying a new recipe, read it not once, but twice and first to see if you understand it and the second to insure you have everything to prepare the dish and I'm happy because I've enjoyed the new recipes too and I love it when I get a break from the kitchen and Sam Green provides practical tips for entertaining, and gives useful information about ingredients along the way and he/she also injects humor now and then too and i highly recommend the book to anyone looking to explore the world of smoking, expanding their cooking skills or just looking for great new BBQ sauces and marinades to try.

I was hoping this cookbook would be more informative. Recipes in this book are easily found online. For someone learning to use a smoker I needed a crash course. I found help in the book "Project Smoke" by Steven Raichlen. A very good book for information and good recipes for many different ways to smoke your food.

I recently purchased an electric smoker and had no idea how to use it. This cookbook is incredibly useful for a first time smoker! The recipes are easy to follow, and the food is tasty and delicious. Lots of good ideas, and if you're a good cook, you can tweak them as you wish, which makes the recipes more versatile. Good buy.

I ordered this on its UK launch date, and was happy to get it just a week or so later. And while I'm not finished yet, I can already say it's a wonderful book.There are quite a lot of great books in the 'quit lit' genre -- many of them wonderful and helpful in their own ways. It's instructive for those of us who are considering a dry life to have stories to consume to help us make our own way. What's special about Catherine's focus is her insistence upon making the bulk of the book about negotiating life AFTER booze. Like the movies that end with the engagement, we miss the meat: what happens after the wedding? the honeymoon? the first year (the first argument!).A lot of us are looking at the WHY - why we want to drink less (or not at all); we know what the problem is... but what comes after we quit? How do we negotiate the awkward moments when we turn down a drink at parties? How can we navigate the after-work invitations to the bar? WILL WE JUST BE BORING PEOPLE?The title says it all: there are joys of living the dry life - many of them unexpected. I thank Catherine for giving us a peek behind the door so we can anticipate those joys for ourselves.

The book is readable but like every alcoholic's story, different from one's own journey and story. She's single and was a social drinker at parties and bars who crossed the line at some point and tells the well-travelled path into alcoholic dispair from a very individual story that is easy enough to read but if it's not along your experience; The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober becomes bogged down in personal experience instead of 'the journey.' One can read much shorter versions in the short stories that follow the Twelve Steps of Alcoholic Anonymous in 'The Big Book' and maybe relate to one or more of those more easily. I keep waiting to give it someone I meet whose story is drinking at parties and bars, not alone at home or in their car!

This book is not only a fun, interesting read, but extremely helpful. Catherine not only tells her story but gives helpful information. I have several other similar books and hers is by far the best!

For anyone who is questioning their drinking or who is flirting with the idea of sobriety or starting out on their sober journey this is essential reading. Catherine brings total honesty to this sometimes raw memoir that challenges the notion that drinking to excess should be accepted as normal behaviour in our alcohol saturated society. I found her to be sharp, witty, relatable and authentic. Reading it felt like I was having a conversation with someone I knew and for that of all the quit lit I’ve read so far this is my favourite.The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober is full of good tips and helpful recommendations. I couldn’t put it down and read it in one day as it was so compelling. I know that her story is one that will stay with me for a long time and that I’ll revisit in the years to come.Catherine’s courage to share her story to help others rewrite their own is to be applauded.

I read a lot of what we ex-drinkers fondly refer to as 'quit lit'. Reading other people's journey to sobriety is uplifting and strengthens our resolve. Katherine Gray's book is my new favorite for many reasons. Her writing is so personable, you feel like you're chatting with your best friend. Her authenticity and honesty is refreshing, and while almost all of the quit lit books take you to the bare bones of 'rock bottom' the difference with Katherine is you never feel like she's embellishing.Everyone's 'rock bottom' is different. Hopefully, as a society we learn to raise that bottom and make it more acceptable to pursue sobriety. Alcohol; the only drug you have to justify not taking. Katherine says her rock bottom was not that bad, not that dramatic, but I disagree. You can feel the pain her drinking was causing her, can see the toll it took on her relationships. Although she was never that 'bad girl' like Sasha Scoblic, her bottom was definitely bad enough.I highly recommend this to anyone whether you think you want to quit or not. It's a great story of courage. It's a great story of self-examination and having the grit to know when you've hit your maximum. It's proof positive that human beings are capable of great things, and are stronger than we think. It's important to share our stories, especially those that highlight our strength and humanity, and Katherine has given us a damn fine example!

I’ve just put this down and I want to pick it right back up again and start again. I may now only be a 2 or 3 on the alcohol addiction scale, and a few years ago I made it a whole year without booze, but now I can see that my life will be better without alcohol. Gray’s honesty, wit and positivity has dispelled my fears about going teetotal, which mostly hinge on being seen as boring, or worse, smug and self-suffering.I recommended this for anyone who feels that they may be depriving themselves if they take that cooling G&T or warming, relaxing glass of red out of their lives. Alcohol is not needed to get into the spirit of things!

This is an excellent book at uncovers the true story of one brave woman that discovered the gift of removing alcohol from her life, and gaining so many gifts as a result. Catherine Gray is brave as she shares her truth on how alcohol impacted her life in such a negative way, and it was not until she removed it that she began living authentically, joyfully and abundant. I am inspired by this book, and also relieved that the story is being told. Society tells us that alcohol is romantic, sophisticated, fun, and the answer to everything. The truth is that it is toxic (or can be toxic) for many, and it is time for us to wake up to the truth, and Catherine bravely shares that in this must read book for those that want more joy in their life and wonder if alcohol is dragging them down. Bravo to Catherine for sharing her personal story, and inspiring readers to expect joy and potentially put down the drink for good.

Rockmore's narrative couched within all the historical background of Riemann and his contemporaries was not only interesting but it provided a path to understand all the why's of the Zeta function, Fourier Analysis, Complex Analysis ... and so much more. Most enjoyable with sufficient technical rigor to challenge even the enlightened.

OK, let's just stipulate that this guy loves mathematics--me, I'm just oddly fascinated with a topic so esoteric that it takes a graduate degree just to decipher the several alphabets that have been sacrificed to the needs of mathematical symbology. It appears as though I am not alone.However, Dr. Rockmore is staking out a different turf than the other books. His goal seems not to be geared towards explaining the difficult topics so much as giving a lay reader an introduction to the various issues that pertain to the problem of the Riemann Hypothesis. Metaphor and simile are not the best tools for describing higher mathematics. My only criticism of this book is that while it touches on everything it actually explains very little. At first, having read the Sabbagh and Derbyshire books, this was frustrating; however, it becomes clear that the purpose of this book is very different."Stalking the Riemann Hypothesis" is more in the nature of "Einstein's Dreams" by Alan Lightman. It is more an attempt to convey the mathematician's wonder and curiosity than an understanding of the underlying science; seen in this light, I felt the book succeeded.

This is the latest and we hope the last book on theRH at least until the thing is solved. It is notat all clear what audience the author was aimingfor but if he is afraid even to spell out suchbasics as the euler product, then clearly the wholeenterprise is doomed. The first third of the book -in which the maxim 'a picture (formula) is worth athousand words' is inverted - is essentiallya total loss. The only redeeming features are sectionson the connection to quantum chaos and to random matrices.Still, considering the resources available to the author,one expected much more.

I greatly enjoyed Prof. Rockmore's clear, non-jargon laden prose. He explains abstract, yet extremely important mathematical ideas with lucidity. I recommend this book highly.

This is another fine book on the Riemann Hypothesis that, in my view, strongly complements the volumes by John Derbyshire and Marcus du Sautoy. Readers of the book should have some prior exposure to the Riemann Hypothesis (including a basic understanding of complex variables), some understanding of linear algebra, and a modicum of understanding of quantum physics. I say this because, unlike for Derbyshire and du Sautoy, the mathematics underlying the Riemann Hypothesis are more talked about than developed. The strengths of the book are (1) the author's strong historical perspective, (2) his ability to make extremely esoteric mathematical concepts understandable (and fun!), and (3)a better discussion than provided by either Derbyshire or du Sautoy of the connection between the distribution of the zeta zeroes and the distribution of the prime numbers -- in short, why it is that the Riemann Hypothesis is viewed amongst mathematicians as being so important.

This gives a short detailed history of the Bujinkan though, along with many fantastic illustrations showing the procedures of how things are performed, and much more. To be honest I was a little nervous when I bought it because I wasn't exactly sure what to expect but

This book is really good and the illustrations are really helpful. I have gotten a few other books and lost interest after a few pages but this one really has illustrations and pictures and it explains what is being done and why with differing views of the different positions. I HIGHLY recommend this book and I HIGHLY recommend that they write a few more! I'd pre-order in a heartbeat!

This book is really awesome! I don't think it's intended for younger readers though. There are step by step instructions for all kinds of really dangerous things. Blinding powder. Throwing shiruken. I bought it to give to a kid for their birthday but once I really took a look at it, I realized that the kid's mom would end up wanting to kill me.

This is a really good book for beginners. It has a basic introduction to the weapons, techniques, and history of the Shinobi. I would recommended purchasing this book as a hard copy. I purchased the kindle version and it is difficult to see some of the diagrams and visuals. Overall it was fun book to read and quite informative.

About the Author

Richard Taylor's fascination with the honey bee started when he accidentally found 2 hives belonging to a stranger. He soon had an apiary of two colonies and was selling comb honey. But college and the war interrupted his beekeeping. After the war, and more college, he became a teacher of Philosophy. But bees came back into his like in the mid-50's and remained a passion until his passing in 2003. During those years, Richard taught Philosophy in a dozen or so Universities, ranging from Brown to Columbia, and published several books, most in philosophy, some in beekeeping. The world of philosophy, the world of bees and his family made Richard "the happiest man on the face of the earth."
