This book is seriously one of the best books I’ve read this year. I devoured it in one sitting and will now have to wait patiently for the next book in the series (don’t know if I can actually wait patiently though). Christina is part of a family of reapers who have a long and glorious history, making them perceived as better than others, a sentiment her parents share. As a child, Christina displays a power that reapers don’t usually have, and she’s forced to hide it from everyone at her parent’s demand. When Christina is tapped to reap her first soul on her own, it doesn’t work out according to plan. When the Council (Reaper governing body) gets involved, her life goes from bad to worse. The story is so beautifully written that you can’t help but hate her parents and the Council. You’re rooting for this young woman who seemingly has no allies or protectors. When someone does step forward, you’re shocked because of their shared history. These characters seem real, both Christine and Charlie are strong and well thought out. The plot moves you along effortlessly and you find yourself stunned to realize you’ve just read the entire thing at once. It completely engrosses and envelops you so that you feel like you’re watching this unfold from the shadows (well, at least I did). If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would.I’ve decided that I’m too impatient and need book 2 now please!!

When 19 year old Reaper Christina hits 20 she comes into her full Reaper powers and will be able to reap souls with out help. But she is unique in that her powers seem to bring people back, she mustn't tell anyone that, because a reapers job is to take. Because of an accident her powers haven't been cooperating very well and she has to figure out why before she is the one reaped. I don't really like her parents much because they tell her she just needs to quit thinking about the past and get to it. This book is very fast paced and very well written. I loved the plot and characters I really cant wait to see wha Jen has up her sleeve for book 2

This book starts out good but ends with greatness. A reapers whose natural instinct is NOT to reap but to heal. I feel so bad for Christina. Life has not been kind to her lately. Her best friend died and she feels like she's to blame. Her parents totally suck and are so self absorbed. The council has Christina between a rock and a hard place and are using her to do their bidding. A demon and a witch who are willing to help but for a price. And let's not forget a possible budding romance! I can not wait for the next installment!!!!

Fast paced, action filled urban fantasy at it's best. The characters feel real and you're instantly drawn in to their world. Literally couldn't put the book down and have pre-ordered the 2nd one already. Can't wait to see where it goes. Highly recommended.

I loved the uniqueness of this story. It's totally a different take on Reapers and I loved it. Many twists throughout the book. Definitely a great read.

What a great start to a new series! There is so much twists and turns. Every single sentence felt like there was a new twist to the plot, and there was so many indeed. First off, the take on reapers is entirely unique. I like how reapers are the center of attention. They are super cool and people to fear. However, the reapers in this novel are also ones who are entirely realistic. I liked how reapers were fun supernatural beings and the whole interaction with the souls.Second off, the heroine was super fun and spunky. I loved how she is an everyday teenager in many aspects, yet has this super cool supernatural side to her. Christina was super relatable, yet her extraordinary abilities made her super special. I liked how she fought to stay true to herself and defied her parents, yet she still loved them. Christina really had a hilarious internal monologue that added bits of humor to the story.Lastly, I really liked the writing and pacing of the novel. There is so much action happening through the pages. I loved how there is little to no romance. Instead, the entire novel is character driven and the world comes second. In addition, the fight scenes were super awesome. The only slight critcism to the novel I have is how the ending was a wee bit abrupt. I wish that the entire climax didn't suddenly raise and boom ended. I felt that the last 80% was somewhat choppy and prevented me from enjoying the entire flow of the novel.Otherwise, I highly recommend this Urban Fantasy novel. Go one-click it and get your daily dose of reapers and the supernatural world.

I really liked how fast paced the plot was--I was never bored with this book, in fact I stayed up far later than usual just to get one more chapter in (read: many more chapters in). I liked how inspite of Christina's circumstances and the more and more dangerous crap she gets herself into, she manages to come out of it somewhere in the middle (not unscathed and not on top, but alive and fighting for herself). I also really liked how Christina seems to be a Reaper with a conscience. Not only that, but that the power that comes naturally to her is in direct conflict with her Reaper powers. It made for an interesting twist and probably the one thing she had the most trouble with accepting: that she's different, but not necessarily in a bad way. And while, I don't want to give away any spoilers, I will say: Christina is basically the one female book character that you find yourself constantly rooting for. She's the ultimate underdog; but also fiercely determined, unexpectedly loyal, heartbreakingly broken, and justifiably haunted. I honestly, can't wait for book 2 and to see if Christina and Charlie are able to outfox a Demon and an all-signs-point-to-yes corrupt Reaper Council!
